Departmental Update: Key Points from Today's Morning Meeting
Dear Team,
This morning's meeting covered several crucial topics that we all need to be mindful of going forward. Attendance at morning meetings is compulsory unless you’re pre-call or on leave. These meetings are designed to support our learning and professional development, with discussions that are essential for our day-to-day practice. We sincerely hope to see an improvement in attendance, as these sessions are for our collective benefit.
A reminder to all: please be wary of other disciplines potentially recording our conversations. It's imperative that we maintain a standard of courtesy, respect, and professionalism, regardless of the circumstances. Our words and actions reflect not only on ourselves but on the entire department.
When on call, it is critical that we communicate effectively, especially when making important decisions. Always inform the consultant on call, particularly regarding significant decisions like cancelling patients or arranging for high care or ICU beds. It’s also important to document that the consultant was informed to ensure transparency and accountability.
We are fortunate to have welcomed two new consultants to our team. Let's ensure we treat them with the respect they deserve. Their decisions must be held in high regard, and their instructions should be carried out with the same diligence as any other consultant. It’s essential to remember that texting them informally or asking for favors is not appropriate. Professionalism should always be maintained.
We must also work on creating a culture of timely handovers. When reporting for call, please ensure you arrive by 15:45, fully dressed and ready for the handover. Arriving 15 minutes late is simply unacceptable. Morning handovers should be conducted at 06:45, and weekend handovers at 07:45.
Finally, let’s strive to create a work environment where everyone feels happy and respected. Look out for one another, be open to both critique and praise, and always be willing to learn from each other. By fostering this kind of culture, we can build a team where everyone is eager to contribute and grow together.
Thank you all for your hard work and dedication. Let’s continue to support each other and maintain the high standards we’ve set as a department.
