Dynamic Duo: Spotlight on Our Inspiring Anaesthetist Besties

This week has got to be my favourite feature of all time 😭😭💜💜 and I’m so delighted to write and share this piece with you all .. these two are inseparable so it only felt fair to feature them together🙏

In this edition of our departments feature Friday, we shine the spotlight on two remarkable anaesthetists whose friendship and professional excellence are truly inspiring. Meet Dr Morosi our fun-loving and adventurous spirit, and Dr Mlabateki known for her poised and elegant demeanor. Despite their contrasting personalities, both bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our team, making them a dynamic duo in every sense. Join us as we delve into the lives and careers of these incredible women who prove that friendship and professionalism can go hand in hand.

In alphabetical order let’s start with Dr Mlabateki our favourite Nolu 😍..who started consultant calls this week !! Congratulations 🥳 we also so excited to watch you elegantly fall into your new role!! her morning meeting on Tuesday 🔥educational and run so well .. definitely learnt so much 💜🙏

Nolu, the epitome of grace and strength in our anesthesiology department. With perfect posture and a life meticulously in order, Nolu is the role model we all aspire to be. Her intelligence and resilience are matched only by her unwavering support for her colleagues. Being with Nolu is like watching a classical opera; every move she makes is smooth, tactful, and seemingly effortless as she navigates each case. Always having your back and ready to stand up to any challenge, including the occasional difficult surgeon on call, Nolu is the embodiment of poise and professionalism.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why? Telepathy, I like straight talker & most people aren’t & expect others to read in between the lines

Sum up your Reg time at Steve in one sentence ? It was nyising flames I tell you but one learns a lot

⁠what was your biggest win in life? That I’m still alive & breathing “in & out”. At a time where we have been through covid, where people are depressed & suicidal. Just being alive & sane is an achievement

If you could swap jobs with anyone in the world for a day, who would it be and why? being a pilot to work & travel the world all in the same breath.

What’s your guilty pleasure TV show or movie that you’re a little embarrassed to admit you love? Cricket cricket & more cricket then game of thrones

If money was not an objection, what would you buy yourself to treat yourself for surviving the past few months ? Where do I start🫣 sneakers, time pieces (Ulysses Nardin to be specific), merc CLE 53 AMG & lastly Land Cruiser VX V8 (but current model would be GR-S GR sport).

What’s your go-to feel good song? Mariah Carey I’ll be there & The Notorious B.I.G sky is the limit

How do you destress at the end of a long day ? I talk to Aggie for a long long long time most times (which is daily) the average call is more than 90mins 🫣.

What's the weirdest thing you've ever eaten? Wuuu octopus but warthog meat surprisingly it was good, warthog biltong is absolutely the best!

What’s one thing on your bucket list that you’re eager to check off? Travel the world and be a biker girl.

You go to on call snack ? Kit Kat, chips, biltong and more Kit Kat (@ some point it was a magnum 3am)

Your biggest support over the past few years ? And if you have any advice for those starting the journey ? My family & my work twin (Agnes Morosi). For those travelling the journey get someone who you can cry, vent & swear (if you must). You are not alone, the person next to you on this journey is definitely going through the similar if not the same thing as you. You just need to be brave enough to vent to someone & hopefully that someone will be your pillar. Lastly don’t forget “umntu ngumntu ngabantu” translated as “a person is a person through other people”

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three items would you want to have with you? My ear phone, iPod/iPhone & snacks

What’s the most interesting place you’ve ever traveled to and why? I’ve not travelled as much as I would like but Thailand was definitely interesting for me. Food (fresh seafood& fried ice cream), safety (stalls were just covered & shops open til very late), data available any & everywhere & last of course the infamous Bangla Road.

your favourite moment at Steve ? I’m not sure if there’s a specific moment. However I thank God for the grow that has happened over the few years & the people I’ve met & have had an impact in my life no matter how big or small.

Her generous soul and adventurous spirit make her a joy to work with and learn from. Being on call with Aggie is a delightful experience; she keeps you entertained through the early morning hours while imparting valuable knowledge in a quick and simple manner. Her ability to break down complex concepts into easy-to-understand explanations is truly remarkable and something you all should take advantage off. With Aggie, every shift is a blend of fun, learning, and unwavering support.

Sum up your Reg time at Steve in one sentence ? I need to write a book to summarise it 😂 but anywho it has been a very satisfying journey, intense program with some challenges but it’s all worth it .

Day 3 as a Registrar post Theatre 9 Adult Cathlab ( the confusion I had) My daughter’s day 3 at crèche #We started the academic journey together 😂

⁠what was your biggest win in life ?
Surviving an MVA that could’ve left me paralysed 16 years ago and being able to live my best life

If you could swap jobs with anyone in the world for a day, who would it be and why? It would be with my friend Sandy she’s a chief GISc Professional her work requires her to travel the world while having fun and still get paid more moola 💰 …. plus working for from home 🙂

Your biggest support over the past few years ? And if you have any advice for those starting the journey? My family 🥹, friends and my study buddy Nolsie …. advice for those starting this journey remember your “WHY”…why did you choose to specialise and that will keep you going ….Be humble, teachable and willing to let go of some “anaesthesia” habits that’s are not evidence-based 😉…. Don’t forget to keep balance between your academic life with social life…

What’s the most interesting place you’ve ever traveled to and why?
Mozambique 🇲🇿 officials at the border gate were not friendly ( spoke Portuguese only with us 😏) including the corrupt police officers who want bribes for everything but despite that they have one the most beautiful resort “Tan ‘n Biki “ the food was very delicious and they sell nice cocktails 🍸

not having premeds on a Sunday 😜( I’m joking ) ….. has to be doping the little ones especially in theatre 10🥰🥰
