New kid on the block

“Okay I get it, lemme think, I guess its my turn” - Nicky Minaj

I have taken on the task of following in the footsteps of my bestie and journalist extraordinaire Fatima Bhabha, and will be gracing you all with my witty posts every now and then from here on out 🫶🏻💁🏻‍♀️

New week, new month, new you!

Let’s try to get that 30 mins of exercise a day in this month, seeing as its the month of looooove and Valentine’s is just around the corner👩🏻‍❤️‍👨🏻 No one wants to deny themselves the pleasure of a good Valentine’s chocolate out of guilt, okay?

Let’s all try to approach this month with a positive mindset and newfound motivation, we have survived Januworry already after all and payday has hit us like a 100-ton train. 🚃

Monday Motivation

To quote the wise words of an undisclosed consultant in an undisclosed speciality 👀 :

“Don’t be traumatised in my unit, save your trauma for another unit”

So don’t bring your trauma from last week (and month) into this week! 😂 Start afresh, begin anew, discard the old, there is plenty of trauma to go around, after-all!

To reflect on the Family Meeting we had this Friday, please be reminded that call requests should be in before the 10th of each month for the following month and when leave has been approved, forms should be submitted ASAP (within 6 days), so don’t procrastinate, get those forms and requests in!

We also have a new face joining the fray today! Dr Kelly Rosslee is our new Registrar and will be starting today, so keep an eye out for her and don’t be shy to throw in a friendly smile and words of encouragement!

but I have saved you the trouble of wondering “Is that the new reg?“ or “I wonder who that is?” by doing a brief interview with her prior to her starting today 😊 you’re welcome

So here it goes…

Get to know: Dr Kelly Rosslee

Birthday: 20 June

Hobbies: running, cycling, camping, birding

Why did I choose anaesthesia: I enjoy the variety of cases we get to do and I enjoy learning more about and understanding physiology and pharmacology and how we manipulate it for desired effects.

I’m from Joburg, I’m family centred, I love doing outdoorsy things. I’m really excited to be a part of the Pretoria Anaesthesia community.

Welcome to the cult (I mean team😏) Kelly!

We also have a Birthday this week, and its none other than one of the founders of this fine platform!

Happiest of birthdays to Dr Jeremy Wong on the 5th of February!🎉🎉

We hope you have an amazing day and that the spoils never stop✨🫶🏻

I like to think of myself as a little bit of a baker and occasional chef, so without further ado, introducing…

Making Meals with Michaela 🧑🏻‍🍳

For our first segment, I thought I would include a fan favourite and just in time for Valentine’s day:

❤️❤️ Fudgey Nutty Brownies ❤️❤️

Ingredients:

•90g chocolate •150g unsalted butter •125g plain flour •15g cocoa powder •300g brown sugar •2 eggs •1tsp Vanilla extract •1/2tsp baking powder •100g chopped pecan nuts

PS this is straight from my favourite Children’s Cookbook, so you know its easy and for me its hands down the best brownie recipe that I have ever made 🙌🏻

And finally because this is an academy platform (sort of teehee 🤭) I have included a little business at the back end of this post (kind of like a reverse mullet)

Propofol TIVA

This is your sign to do more propofol TIVAs!!! 💉💊🩺

That’s all from me folks! Have a great week! 🙌🏻💃🏻

Powell Peace-out ✌🏻
