The Weekly Update 3/3/25
Greetings on this cold and rainy Sunday! What I cannot believe is how fast the year is passing us by, just the other day everyone was writing about “januworry” on social media and now we’re almost posting about easter! Its strange to think that we always think that the road ahead of us is so long until we reach our goals and yet before you know it you’re doing senior rotations… I suppose those of us with children also feel the inevitable pull of time when just the other day our little helpless potatoes (well I think they look like that when they all wrapped up) were drooling, eating, sleeping and pooping are now running around our houses just trying to pull everything in sight off the table.
This leads me to saying that this last Friday was indeed a sad one. We bid hopefully a temporary goodbye to four of our colleagues. While progress must trudge on, it doesn’t make it easier to say goodbye. Here are some pictures from the morning meeting;

As one can see, these ladies always showed up with smiles on their faces, always were willing to help and most importantly always did it with style. (Dr Kalipa is not leaving us, but will probably kill me for posting this photo)
WE WILL MISS YOU GUYS… Go well, Aim for the sky.
Monday
As the sun rises on Monday morning, I’m sure there are some people who are enjoying that immense feeling of relief when primaries/FCA1 are done and dusted. Its now back to work and back to a full week of lists so enjoy the freedom and goodluck with the results. To those preparing for Orals / FCA 2, we also are thinking of you and continue the preparation.
Im sure many of us have seen the new March roster and the number of people available and hence the number of calls we will have to do… unfortunately the current healthcare crisis has hit us and even the highest levels of healthcare are at risk. While it seems very unfair and just puts more pressure on everyone, one must remember that this too shall pass and hopefully soon more family members will join us. But in the meanwhile just focus on one patient at a time, one list at a time and soon something will change. Speaking of which, remember to check your 4th on call cover!
Tuesday

Evening of Fri, 28 Feb 2025 – Sun, 30 Mar 2025 (Dates may change slightly)
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar and is considered one of the holiest months for Muslims. It is a time of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community. During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn until sunset, refraining from eating, drinking, smoking, and sinful behavior. The fast is intended to teach self-discipline, self-reflection, and empathy for the less fortunate.
The fast is broken each evening with a meal called iftar, which is often begun with dates and water, following the tradition of the Prophet Muhammad. The pre-dawn meal before the fast begins is called suhoor.
Ramadan also emphasizes spiritual practices like increased prayer, recitation of the Quran, and acts of charity. The last ten days of Ramadan are especially significant, with the Laylat al-Qadr (Night of Power), believed to be the night when the Quran was first revealed, falling within this period.
The end of Ramadan is marked by Eid al-Fitr, a celebration that involves feasting, giving charity (called zakat al-fitr), and spending time with family and friends.
We wish those who partake well and during this time if any help is needed please ask.

Thursday
Oh! I forgot to mention that we will be getting new interns this week, so as always let's orientate them and I guess you will have to do centricity this week! We shall do a feature with all the new interns and a short bio so look out for that. I know some of the senior guys don’t always get exposed to the interns and I have often heard them saying I have never even seen that intern before ! So hopefully we can bridge that gap for you.
Friday
Some reminders of paediatric drug doses:

We shall confirm during the week of the upcoming academics.
