Dearest gentle readers

Coming back to Steve Biko after 3 months of Kalafong ... and one week of leave. I find myself looking forward to interacting with everyone that I haven't seen for a bit. Many thanks to every single wishes that was sent to me as I shuffle closer and closer to joint replacement surgery. 😆
Diving back to a smol history to the Feast of St Valentine.
Smol history paragraph... St. Valentine was a "legendary" Christian martyr. He was the patron saint of lovers, people with epilepsy and beekeepers. A curious combination. Valentine's day essentially started around 14th century. Origin story is a bit vague but believed to originate around Roman festival of Lupercalia (a she-wolf deity - who protected herds and associated with fertility God - Faunus?) . Well, Pope Gelasius 1 pulled a cancellectomy and was thought to have replaced it to Valentine's day.

Sharing my personal motivation
I've made a conscious decision—this year is going to be different. A little tough talk gave me the push I needed, and now it's a firm 'no more slouching.' Morning gym before work is the new routine. Staying motivated isn’t always easy, but what keeps me going is this: looking at where I want to be versus where I am now. Hopefully, by the end of the year, we’ll be checking off all the things we set out to accomplish.
Oh, and a quick reminder for anyone still clinging to Christmas decorations... Time to take them down. LOL. (Mainly calling myself out here, but hey, if the shoe fits!)
Quick MMed plea
If anyone else has a patient for regional (who has had previous regional anaesthetic techniques within 18 months) please feel free to contact me to enrol patients. My MMed revolves around the use of a Virtual Reality headset in patients undergoing regional anaesthesia. "Very easy to use - even sleepy Joe can use it". There is a unit at Steve Biko AND at Kalafong!
Anyone else who would like a smol shout out to their MMeds feel free to contact me with the deets! Lets all help each other out!

Gift wrapping tips!
A bit of a summary from the website linked below:
There are a variety of different techniques to "wrap it up" 😉. Make use of appropraitely sized gift bags (use tissue paper for the perfect filler - don't forget a casual spray of perfume). When using wrapping paper, there are different techniques that can be used. Try wrap tightly and decorate for that expert finish - it does not always need to be a ribbon! Try a cute sticker 🥰
How to choose the best bunch of flowers at Woolies!
When choosing flowers, consider the recipient, the color scheme, and the desired impact.
Recipient's favorite colors: Choose flowers in the recipient's favorite colors to make them happy
Consider the arrangement
- Focal flowers
- Choose flowers with symmetrical petals, like roses, to be the focal point of the arrangement
- Floral combinations
- Combine flowers with different sizes, shapes, and textures, and colors that complement each other
Consider the freshness of the flowers
- Petals
- Check for brown or black spots, which indicate that the flower is not fresh
- Overall appearance
- Look for flowers that are strong, tall, and vibrant, and that are sturdy and firm to the touch
