Weekly update- 4/11 to 08/11

Happy November, Team! 🎉

This weekend was the start of the dreaded fourth on call 🥲😭, please continue to daily log your theatre delays !!

Can you believe it’s already November? With Christmas just around the corner, decorations are starting to pop up everywhere – has anyone spotted them yet? It’s also Movember season! Who’s growing out that ’stache in support of men’s health? Whether you’re rocking a handlebar, goatee, or a classic moustache, we can’t wait to see everyone’s Movember style around the department. Let’s spread awareness and have some fun with it!

Monday:

Big shoutout to Dr. Jansen Van Vuuren and Dr. Marias, who braved the Daredevil Run this weekend to support testicular cancer awareness! Running in some bold outfits (and we mean bold!), they brought humor and heart to a very important cause.

When asked about the experience Petri told us :

“Was such a fun experience! The Hollard Daredevil run is an annual run to raise funds and awareness for testicular cancer. It's 5km, a speedo and tons of fun - the main runs take place here:

  • Eastern Cape: Something Good Roadhouse in Port Elizabeth
  • Gauteng: Zoo Lake in Johannesburg
  • KZN: Surf Life Saving Club in Durban
  • Free State: Northridge Mall in Bloemfontein
  • Northern Cape: Suzuki Stadium in Kimberley
  • Western Cape: Bootleggers in
    Greenpoint

However you can also arrange your own run. Big thanks to Justin Marais for taking time out of his schedule to get a bunch of guys together, plot a route for us through scenic Lynnwood, and organise all the admin as well.

The run itself was a nice casual easy pace 5km jog. Urology (SMU), Plastics (UP) and Anaesthesia (UP) were all represented 😅 whether it's the general lekker South African spirit or because it's a student part of town used to slightly unorthodox shenanigans the support from every car and passerby was great. Lots of cheers, hooting and hollering.

For any guys keen to do their own mini-daredevil run next year. It's as easy as getting some friends together ordering your speedo - R180 and hitting the road”

Tuesday:

Damn 🔥🔥🔥

Our best wishes go out to Dr. Smith, who celebrated his wedding last Sunday in the stunning Western Cape. He looked as sharp as ever, with his beautiful bride by his side. Now, they’re off for an unforgettable honeymoon adventure to Machu Picchu! Congrats, Dr. Smith – we can’t wait to hear the stories and see the incredible photos when you’re back.

Wow !!
Beautiful
Vogue worthy

Wednesday:

Something other than medicine !!

For those who didn’t know, Dr. Sookur is from the beautiful island of Mauritius, often thought of as paradise on earth. But this week, paradise faced a unique situation as the government temporarily restricted social media access during national elections, stirring up quite a conversation. Amid a recent wiretapping scandal, the opposition is questioning whether this restriction is a tactic to maintain power. It’s a reminder of how powerful social media can be in influencing voters and raises some big questions about freedom of information during election periods.
