Monday 18 November
Prioritising your own mental health in the process! I've taken the connivence of listing ways to start Monday off with some positivity 💜
Practice Gratitude
When you wake up, take a moment to think of at least three things you're grateful for. This helps shift your focus from what you don’t have to what you do, setting a positive tone for the day.
Set Intentions, Not Just Goals
Instead of just listing tasks, set an intention for how you want to approach your day. For example: “Today, I will focus on staying calm and present” or “I will embrace challenges as opportunities for growth.” Intentions align your mindset with your goals.
Move Your Body
Even if it’s just for a few minutes, physical movement in the morning can boost your energy and release feel-good endorphins. Stretching, yoga, or a short walk can help clear your mind and get your blood flowing.
Eat a Healthy Breakfast
Fueling your body with a nutritious breakfast gives you the energy you need to face the day with positivity. Opt for something that balances protein, healthy fats, and complex carbs (e.g., oatmeal with nuts, yogurt with fruit, or avocado toast).
Breathe and Meditate
Take a few moments to do deep breathing exercises or meditate. Even five minutes of mindfulness can help calm your mind, increase focus, and promote positive thinking.
Listen to Uplifting Music or a Podcast
Start your day with something that inspires or energizes you. Whether it’s a favorite song, a motivational podcast, or an audiobook, listening to something positive can help boost your mood.
Affirmations
Recite a few positive affirmations that resonate with you, such as:
- "I am capable of handling whatever comes my way today."
- "I choose to have a productive and peaceful day."
- "I am worthy of success and happiness."
Smile!
It sounds simple, but smiling can trigger positive feelings in your brain, helping you feel more optimistic as you begin your day.

Here are some 5 year aspirations from our future specialists and colleagues
Dr Reddy - In 5 years, I hope to be a mother and in an area of medicine that I'm insanely passionate about
Dr Vumba - In 5 years I see myself as an OBGYN registrar or specialist aesthetic Dr. I see myself with a healthy relationship with food, gym and an even better one with God. I see myself having travelled a few countries with my partner. I see myself in a farm house with a big yard full of chickens, a few cows and one or two horses.
Dr Brooks - In 5 years, I might be working as a registrar in haematology or as an MO somewhere whilst completing my Masters in medical law and ethics, but who knows what can happen in 5 years. What I can hope for most is to serendipitously end up somewhere fascinating that is exactly where I'm supposed to be
Dr Best 0 In 5 years I hope to have started a family and hopefully specialise in a field I feel passionate about. Only time will tell.
Dr du Buisson - Where I see myself in 5 years: That's for the Lord to know and for me to find out
Dr Plaatjies - Where I see myself in 5 years.... I'm probably about to finish my reg time in OBGYN
(in time of publication, we have yet to receive a response from two of our house doctors - as a result we were unable to feature them)
Thursday 21 November
As the year draws to a close, it's natural to feel the weight of the months behind us. Take a moment to honor how far you've come, and remember: it's okay to slow down, rest, and recharge. You’ve earned it! Here's to finishing strong and welcoming the new year with renewed energy and fresh perspective. 🌟
