Monday
Dr. Ismail and I celebrated Eid ul-Adhaa this Monday. This significant day in the Islamic calendar commemorates the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. It is a time for prayer, feasting, and charity.

Eid prayers in Makkah

Additionally, it was a double celebration for South Africans as Youth Day was observed on Sunday. This public holiday honors the bravery of students during the Soweto Uprising in 1976. We hope everyone took a moment to appreciate our freedoms and consider ways to contribute to a better South Africa.

A special thank you to Dr. Vieira for organizing the tutorial with Dr. Steyn; we hope everyone learned something new.

A recent study published on June 6 in JAMA Network Open reveals that surgeons are most likely to be reported for unprofessional behavior, while pediatric physicians are the least likely. The study analyzed data from over 35,000 physicians across 193 hospitals, finding that less than 10% were reported for at least one instance of unprofessional behavior, and only 1% showed a pattern of such reports. Stressful environments and high-stakes interactions in surgery may contribute to these behaviors. Unprofessional actions, such as disrespectful communication or neglect of professional responsibilities, not only affect team dynamics but also increase patient complications and malpractice claims. The study underscores the need for systemic changes to reduce stress and burnout among healthcare professionals https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/surgeons-most-likely-behave-unprofessionally-study-2024a1000b7h?ecd=WNL_trdalrt_pos1_ous_240618_etid6603913&uac=296162CN&impID=6603913
