Weekly Update 29/6/25
Hello everyone !
In life you get weeks that either go your way or take a short left and leave you wondering what on earth happened. Well, the last week was one of those weeks. Firstly, we would like to congratulate every single person who obtained a diploma, an FCA, published a paper , getting a PhD or a post. Perhaps it was just a birthday and another year older ? We have to celebrate the small and big things because life just happens and if we don’t take note of the good then the bad seems to win. To those whose week wasn’t so celebratory, your week will come and just be positive.
Tomorrow is the FCA 2 written paper and we wish everyone goodluck, also hopefully you aren’t reading this and studying. So we understand and will let you off the hook just this once. Speaking of which please get those new colleagues in the department to sign up to the newsletter if they haven’t done so.

Some other happenings around the department,

DR PORTIA MALADZE-TSANWANI!

Today we celebrate an amazing woman, This lady received some spectacular news that she had passed FCA 2 Examinations. We as the department congratulate you and all the hard work you have put into getting this done. What’s more impressive is that you did it all with a smile and a positive attitude, I always enjoy your calm and happy presence in theatre and as a junior felt more confident with you in 7 on call. We wish you well going forward.
A special message from Portia :
From the very first day i stepped into the Dept of Anaesthesiology UP, i knew i had made the right decision. The warmth and welcome i received from everyone made me feel at home and i will always be grateful.I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who contributed in my success.
My husband and children for being the pillars of my strength and my motivation to keep pushing even when i felt like giving up.
To the consultants-thank you for being such passionate educators and mentors, you have not only taught me the science but also the art of anaesthesia.
To my fellow registrars,MOs and interns-thank you for walking this journey with me.
I am profoundly grateful for each person who contributed to to my success. Thank you
Friday Academics!
The roster for Friday academics has been circulated around the various WhatsApp groups so let’s be aware of what and who is presenting. There has been a growing concern around the department about the protection of our academics. Perhaps we can discuss this at a meeting soon. The website has this attached.
