Weekly update 12/08 - 16/08
Welcome back after the long weekend! We hope everyone had a restful break. As we dive into this week, let's reflect on the significance of Women’s Day - it is a moment to honor the strength, resilience, and brilliance of each woman who walks these halls, touches lives, and makes an indelible mark on the world.
To the doctors, leaders, and girl bosses among us: You embody a legacy that stretches far beyond the present. You are the dream that generations of women before you dared to envision—a reality that was once unimaginable. Your 5-year-old self, with wide eyes and boundless hope, would be in awe of the person you’ve become. You’ve shattered ceilings, carried the weight of the world with grace, and shown that no challenge is too great when met with determination and heart.
In every patient you heal, every life you touch, and every barrier you break, you honor those who came before you. The strength you exhibit daily is a testament to the power within you, and your unwavering commitment to excellence makes this world a better place for all who follow in your footsteps.
Thank you for being leaders, mentors, and inspirations to us all. Thank you for your compassion, your wisdom, and your dedication to the art and science of healing.
May we continue to lift each other up, support one another, and walk proudly in the path we’ve forged together. Your light shines bright, and the world is a better place because you are in it.
Monday: Returning Strong
- Reflection: After the long weekend, let's come back with renewed energy. Remember, how far you have come and all the obstacles you have conquered to be here !! and together, we can achieve great things.
Tuesday: Reclaiming My Time
- Personal Note: I realized that after work, I often fall into the habit of doom-scrolling or binge-watching series. To break that cycle, I’ve decided to reclaim my time by setting a schedule for myself. Whether it’s practicing yoga, reading a page of a novel, or maybe even doing some painting, I’m focusing on self-care and personal growth. I encourage you to find your own ways to unwind and enrich your life outside of work.
Wednesday: Newsletter Collaboration
- Call for Assistance: We’re looking for someone currently at Kalafong to assist with the newsletter to keep us updated with the happenings down that side!! . We’d also like to introduce a new feature called "What Went Well and What Went Wrong?" This will be a space for weekly reflections, where we can discuss achievements and areas for improvement—whether it’s something as small as cleaning up the tea room or fridge or something more significant.
Thursday: Healthy Recipe
- RSVP for Quiz Night: Don’t forget to RSVP for the department quiz night hosted on saturday! There will be free food and drinks, and it’s a fantastic opportunity to get to know each other better. Let’s all come together for a fun evening of trivia and camaraderie!
Friday: Academic Focus
- Academic Sessions: We hope everyone will attend the academic sessions scheduled for this Friday. According to the timetable released in January, we have five insightful talks lined up:
- Vascular Anaesthesia by Dr. Siyaka
- Paediatric Cardiac Anaesthesia by Dr. Maakamedi
