Weekly update 26 - 30 august

Congratulations and Feedback:
We'd like to start by congratulating the winner of this year's Wellness Award! Unfortunately, we didn’t win this time, but we received some valuable feedback on our departmental newsletter. The feedback was:

“Congratulations to you on the success of the departmental newsletter. This is a very innovative idea and inspirational for other anaesthesia teams to learn from and adopt. However, the objectives for which the prize will be used are not clear in relation to the newsletter initiative. The list of items to be purchased does not tie up with the newsletter initiative. The budget allocation is not clear, which poses a challenge in assessing the cost-effectiveness and sustainability of the idea.”

Hopefully, next year we can bring that money home! 🤣 We also want to congratulate the winners—the Department of Anaesthesia at Bloemfontein's University of the Free State. Their initiative, "Pickleball To Keep You Out of a Pickle," aims to promote mental wellness, foster friendships among colleagues, enhance teamwork and communication, encourage physical activity, and inspire laughter through playful outdoor games, all while enjoying a shared meal together. The target audience includes anaesthesiologists, professionals from various medical specialties, nursing staff, and other healthcare workers. They plan to host this event annually, with planning led by their Wellness Team, and hope to increase attendance each year.

A final word from Chris Ngaka, Wellness Convenor:
"Their idea is very applicable to the needs of anaesthesia teams, innovative, scalable, and sustainable with the right drivers. The proposal is professionally presented with clear goals and objectives. Congratulations on this great initiative, and we hope it will inspire other anaesthesia teams throughout the country to participate in team-building activities like yours, which also encourage physical activity."
